Vaccinations
Vaccinations are an integral part of maintaining our patients’ optimum health status. Many animal diseases that are detrimental, and sometimes fatal, can be prevented by routine vaccinations. For dogs, the available vaccines include DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus), Bordetella (kennel cough), rabies and Lyme vaccine. For cats, RCP (Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia), FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) and rabies vaccines are available. The frequency that rabies vaccine is given is mandated by California state law. However, the other vaccines recommended and the frequency that the vaccines are given are tailored to the individual patient. As an example, a dog that hikes in tick infested areas where Lyme disease is present may benefit from having the Lyme vaccine. Alternately, an indoor only cat may not require the FeLV vaccination.
